What should I wear to my photo session?

A few helpful hints and ideas when deciding what to wear for your upcoming photo session:

Coordinating outfits:

Now this doesn't mean that everyone has to 100% match with khaki pants and white shirts. You want to compliment each other's outfits by choosing colors that work well together. I find that if everyone is wearing the same colors and styles, people will tend to all blend in together in the images. You want to aim for coordinating your outfits rather than matching them :) 

Let your personalities SHINE:

Perhaps the most important "rule" when choosing what to wear! The purpose of your photo session is to capture a moment in time and to capture each individual as they truly are. I have found that when children are dressed in outfits that are uncomfortable and unfamiliar, it tends to cause anxiety and stress for them, which in turn will inhibit their real personalities from showing in the images. Same goes for adults! Wear clothing that YOU feel good in and the pictures will emanate those feelings. Remember, we want to stop time and capture you and your family as you are in this moment :) 

Why all-inclusive?

I never want you to have to choose your favorite images and I never want to restrict the images I edit and place in your gallery. As a wife and mother, I know that every image of my family is my favorite :) I want you to have all of the various images in your gallery to have and cherish forever. I want your gallery to be a collection of images that speak to your family's uniqueness and connection. 

How do I prep for my session?

My goal is to capture who you are and who your family is right now, not to make you do anything too stiff or unnatural. We want to have fun at your session! I encourage you to make this a fun family experience. Instead of bribing your children with a treat, make this a feel good day. Make plans to go out for dinner or a treat before or after the session as a family. Not as a reward, but as part of the overall experience. I will worry about your kids behavior, you just need to show up prepared to have fun and relax. 

Where should we choose to have the photo session?

The number one question I get asked every time I am scheduling a session is, "where do you think we should do the photo shoot?". This question is usually followed up with thoughts such as, "I would like somewhere really pretty" or " I would like beautiful colors in the location".  This is even more so true in the fall when everybody is looking for those gorgeous fall colors in their family photos. What is a “mini session”?

Throughout the year we will scheduled themed “mini sessions” (i.e. Mommy & Me, Fall, Holiday Red Truck, etc.). These sessions are held at a specific location determined by us, on a specified day during specified times :) These are some of our favorite sessions to do, as they are so much fun! They are a great way to get a quick session in with lots of great photos - and don’t worry, they are all-inclusive also!!
